Magazine project planning-research #3 Style Watch magazine

Today, I analyzed a Style Watch magazine. On the cover, there are five different female celebrities pictured standing in a line next to each other. The pictures appear to be photo-shopped in, since there is no background and all of the picture are from different events. The title of the magazine is in the largest font, and is in bold light pink letters at the top and centered, with the faces of the celebrities going in front of the title. The second largest font is used to draw attention to the main article within the magazine, and says, "The Spring Fashion issue.", and also includes several other phrases used to describe other articles. For example, "161 must-haves under $50!" and "Carrie Underwood's skin secrets!". This magazine includes article mostly directed towards fashion, and the table of contents in set up in columns with the titles bolded and a short description underneath. Furthermore, the table of contents includes a headshot of a celebrity...

Magazine project planning-research #2 InStyle Magazine

The next magazine I chose to analyze, was In Style. The cover shows a picture of Nicola Roberts posing from the thighs up. The magazine title is placed in a pink box behind her head in big bold letters. Furthermore, the cover displays information about other articles located inside of the issue, such as, "Exclusive: Victoria Beckham on the perfect look!" and other fashion tips and insights.  This magazine mostly contains a myriad of articles about fashion, whether that be fashion tips, or outfit suggestions from celebrities. Furthermore, this magazine contains articles about the lives of celebrities and how it correlates to fashion. In the middle of the magazine, there's an article about Nicola Roberts, and a timeline of her stardom. It explains how she became famous and quotes from he interview along with several pictures both from present day and in the past. There are multiple different advertisements, and are again seen more towards the beginning and end of the magazi...

Magazine project planning-research #1 People Magazine

The first magazine I chose to research, is People. The cover layout consists of a head-shot of Reese Witherspoon, with the words "My Family Christmas" to the left of her face, in bold letters to attract the reader's attention. Furthermore, the title of the magazine, People is displayed in the largest font, and is in bright red going right behind Reese's face in the center. Surrounding Reese's face, are tidbits about articles located in the magazine, with pictures associated with the content. For example, the words "Royal Secrets: the untold story of Queen Elizabeth" is right next to a picture of Queen Elizabeth with her crown on. Another article insight includes, "Goodbye to America's Dad" with a picture of Alan Thicke with the years of his life located under his chin. Overall, the cover page utilizes a color scheme of red, black and white, all of which contrast each-other and stand out among the smaller pictures. Furthermore, the magazine ...

Project Selection-My Decision

Based on my current skills, I have chosen to create a magazine for my project. This is because I am a relatively skilled photographer which I believe will assist me in thinking of ideas for photo-shoots and articles. Furthermore, I have a decent camera (Canon Rebel t6) which will allow me to produce high-quality photographs to utilize in my magazine. My vision for my magazine is for it to be based on the arts, but with a fashion influence. For example, one article may include a coffee shop, what the model wore, what she drank, and why she/he is there. Therefore, my project will be categorized with other fashion magazines. Furthermore, I have chosen to work alone, since it would be easier for me rather than trying to coordinate times to meet up with other people in my group. Also, I enjoy having complete control when working on a project, as it allows me to ensure things get done correctly, and on time.

Project Selection-Film

Throughout the beginning of this class, we studied different types of films composed of several different genres. Based on the films that I have been exposed to, I believe I would enjoy creating a comedic films the most. One of my personal attributes that would make the film project a good fit for me, is my gravitation towards people and making them happy. Growing up, I always observed my parents who effortlessly made friends through humor. Therefore, I believe I have gained that same quality, and would love to create a film that brings joy to others. Furthermore, I enjoy music, and would be able to put my knowledge to the test wen choosing music to enhance the humorous affect of  the film. On the contrary, I am not experienced with cinematography, which could make this film project difficult for me. Also, I would prefer to work alone for this project, which would make it difficult to create a film product without the helps of others to direct, act, and design costumes.

Project Selection-Magazine

When considering print journalism, there are certain aspects that entice me the most. Based on the previous examples of print journalism that I have been exposed to, I am mostly attracted to the magazines, due to their range of creativity. Although print journalism based off of news and current events interests me, I believe where I live is more so focused on the arts, which will allow me to explore my creativity. Ever since I was a child, I have thoroughly enjoyed doing photography. Therefore, I believe the magazine will be a good fit for me, since I will be able to put my photographs to good use. However, this project may be challenging, if I fail to brainstorm creative ideas for articles to match my photo-shoots.  Furthermore, photography is widely based on lighting, so timing the photo-shoots to where the lighting fits the mood or theme I'm going for may be a challenge. Moreover, finding locations that will allow me to take pictures free of charge may also pose to be challengin...
