Magazine project planning-research #3 Style Watch magazine

Today, I analyzed a Style Watch magazine. On the cover, there are five different female celebrities pictured standing in a line next to each other. The pictures appear to be photo-shopped in, since there is no background and all of the picture are from different events. The title of the magazine is in the largest font, and is in bold light pink letters at the top and centered, with the faces of the celebrities going in front of the title. The second largest font is used to draw attention to the main article within the magazine, and says, "The Spring Fashion issue.", and also includes several other phrases used to describe other articles. For example, "161 must-haves under $50!" and "Carrie Underwood's skin secrets!". This magazine includes article mostly directed towards fashion, and the table of contents in set up in columns with the titles bolded and a short description underneath. Furthermore, the table of contents includes a headshot of a celebrity that relates to a featured article, as well as decorative pictures of makeup. The main article about spring fashion is located in the center of the magazine as the featured article typically are, and directly before and after that article, the other article listed on the cover can be found. This magazine contains several advertisements, including some about clothes from the Guess brand, L'Oreal face masks, Dillard's , and Urban Decay's Vice Liquid Lipstick. Therefore, most of the advertisements are pointed towards the typical audience for Style Watch which is presumably younger women who are interested in beauty and fashion. The advertisements are mostly concentrated in the beginning and end of the magazine, but some advertisements are located throughout. All of the articles contain some type of photos that relate to the article. For example, the article about spring fashion shows full-length shots of different celebrities in different outfits, while the articles about makeup contain close-ups of someone's face to display the makeup look. The distribution number for Style Watch, is about 2,300,854.

Final Submission

I didn't choose to change anything about my cover, because I am content with the layout of it, as well as the color scheme. I didn't change anything from the 3rd quarter submission for my contents page. I chose to make the text wrap around my pictures, and centered the picture on the right in the middle of the text, as well as add branding on the bottom of the page for our website and social media.

Production #4-Article

Today I was also able to complete my article pages. I chose to incorporate the same border I used on the contents page in order to create a sense of cohesiveness. Furthermore, I made the background a pale blue color to match the sky in the first picture on the article, and chose to make the font black, since it's classic and simple. I made the article title a bigger font size than the actual article, as that's how most, if not all, magazine are. I also chose to make the name of the interviewee the largest to represent that she is the main point of discussion in the article. On the second page I chose a quote that Kailyn said and chose to enlarge and and place a picture next to it, similar to an article I saw in  InStyle magazine. This helps to draw attention to the importance of the quote, as well as show a picture of Kailyn dressed casually, which she explained during our interview is her favorite style.
