In reference to the majority of my project, it uses the typical conventions of magazine style templates. My front cover has a background which is a portrait of my model, Kailyn, and has the magazine title across the top layered over her face. Moreover, the cover has short pieces of information that lets the reader see a preview of the articles inside. This type of cover format uses the typical conventions of the magazine industry, since most covers from magazine such as, InStyle, Elle, and Vogue, all usually have a picture as the background with the cover centered at the top either behind or in-front of the subject, with information about the articles within the magazine around the perimeter. Furthermore, I chose to match the title to the color of my model's shirt, which is a standard technique of most magazines, which allows the cover to appear cohesive. Also, the information about the titles is a pale pink color, to match the model's blush pink lips and cheeks, again creating a seamless feel and ensure the cover is color-coordinated. I also included the date of the issue in the top right corner, which is also a convention seen being used by major magazines, and is another detail I added in order to make sure my magazine cover appeared as professional as possible. Furthermore, my table of contents conforms to the conventions of the magazine industry, by having the picture about the main article be first, followed by the page number for the feature article. Also, the table of contents displays other articles, which are deemed the most important or notable including another picture that relates to another article. Moreover, I included my magazine's social media accounts, which is a tactic used by other magazines to increase their traffic through these sites, thus increasing the size of the audience they are able to reach. I also utilized the bottom of the page, and added the magazine's website, since some magazines use the bottom of the page to add thin text and ensure that o space is wasted. However, my table of contents might seem to challenge conventions, due to its simplicity. This is due to the fact that I did not want the reader to be overwhelmed with a page crammed with multiple articles and pages, but rather them view the major articles and choose the ones that interest them. In reference to my article, it mainly conforms to the use of conventions, since the article title is the biggest and boldest font at the top and centered. Also, the first page contains a large picture of the featured model, with the text wrapped around it; this is a typical technique utilized by magazines to make the article appear more enticing with the picture centered bu surrounded by text. Furthermore, the second page of the article (as well as the first) appears in columns, which is the typical format used by several (if not all) magazines. I also chose to add another picture with a quote pulled out from the interview. By making the quote in a different and larger font, it draws attention to the significance of it, and is yet again another technique used by magazine companies. Also, I made sure to include the page numbers at the bottom left corner of the left page, and the bottom right corner of the right page which is another standard aspect of well-known magazines. My magazine represents a vast social group of aspiring creative people, including models, who don't necessarily conform to the standards created by the media industry and might not be seen as a potential success. Because of this, it represents social issues of people being too judgmental towards aspiring creators. For example, models are typically viewed as having the potential for success if they dress better than average 24/7, always have their hair and makeup done, and extremely tall and thin. Kailyn however, shows that you can have success (even if it's small), by just being yourself, even if it means not doing your makeup and hair, and dressing as you please.
Today I finished my creative critical reflection presentation on Prezi. https://prezi.com/p/g_i0pqnhefvw/
