My project both follows and rejects the conventions of fashion-based magazines. The cover generally follows fashion standards, by making the entire page a head-shot of a model or celebrity with snippets of articles on the side, and a brief description of the featured article in the center. However, when it comes to both the table of contents as well as the article, conventions are rejected in order to favor a more simplistic magazine style. For example, the table of contents only features a few select articles with limited pictures, rather than overwhelming the reader with multiple pictures and articles. Furthermore, the article also only features a few pictures, which is unlike big-brand fashion magazines, which also include paparazzi photos, rather than pictures from a photo-shoot. However, I decided to pull out a quote and make the font larger and different than the rest of the article to draw attention to it, which is typical of fashion magazines. This article represented the social group of aspiring creative people, specifically models, who don't necessarily follow the norms of hyped-up and made-up models but rather prefer to stay more natural and comfortable with their style. The underlying message that can be inferred, is that society's norms of models are for them to be perfect and presentable at all times, even though they're people just like us. Kailyn however, shows that it's okay to be comfortable in your own skin and still be successful. The target audience would be fashion and beauty forward teens, since most of the articles are about teens in fashion and how they're changing the industry for the better. Also, since we provide our Instagram and Twitter, it allows teenagers to follow us on our social media sites, and stay up-to-date with fashion trends, and hopefully entice them to pick up a copy of our magazine.
Today I finished my creative critical reflection presentation on Prezi. https://prezi.com/p/g_i0pqnhefvw/
